So, this platform built everything internally to give us simplicity and comfort when it comes to building a website and managing it.

If you want to rank your SEO up, make sure to keep reading.

Let’s get started !!

Squarespace SEO: Top Tips

What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. This tool will help your website rank higher in search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Bing, or any other website of your preference. It also makes your site attractive for Google. It’s a free marketing tool that if you know how to use and optimize your website it will help you rank higher in the results and therefore get found by more people.

SEO on Squarespace is super friendly for this. So, to fully optimize your website for SEO:

VERIFY YOUR SITE WITH GOOGLE SEARCH CONSOLE

This step is crucial because you're basically telling Google bots, that your website is ready and live, and it's running on the internet. So, they can come to your website and check it out. For this:

    1. Go to Home.

    2. Select Settings.

    3. Select Connected Accounts.

    4. Connect your account by selecting the “Search Console” option.

    5. There, log in to your email. Click Allow, and follow the steps.

SECURE SITE WITH SSL

Once you verify your site, it’s time to secure your website with SSL. An SSL certificate (or Secure Sockets Layer certificate) helps boost your website security and boost SEO. SSL secured connections, making your website safer for both you and your visitors (you can tell if a site is secured if you see that the site has an “s” on the “HTTP”). For this:

    1. Go back to the settings page.

    2. Scroll down, and select the Advanced option.

    3. Click on SSL.

    4. Make sure that you choose the “Secure” option, as well as the second one (HSTS).

    5. Click Save and Go Back

ADD AN SEO SITE DESCRIPTION

This is your overall website's site description. This is the description that is going to show up on Google. So, to have a strategic site description, make sure to use some keywords, and keep it between 50 and 300 characters. For this:

    1. Go to Settings

    2. Select Marketing

    3. Click on SEO

    4. Scroll down, and at the bottom, you will see the option to enter your description.

    5. Once you enter your description, Click SAVE.

ADD SEO DESCRIPTIONS TO PAGES AND COLLECTION ITEMS

The site description that we have just added belongs to the home page. Now, you have to describe all of the pages. For this:

    1. Go to Pages.

    2. Click on the Settings of your page.

    3. Make sure that your Site Title, Navigation Title, and URL slug from that page are optimized. This means using keywords and short titles for that page.

    4. Next, go to the SEO option, and enter your site title and description.

    5. Click SAVE, and go ahead and do that to the rest of your pages.

IMAGES OPTIMIZED FOR SEO

For this:

    1. Start changing the name of the images for the actual description of the image, instead of having random numbers and letters on it. You can even add your name, the name of your website, and a keyword that describes what you do.

    2. Before you upload them to your website, compress them. This will help your website to load faster and it will also improve your SEO. To compress your images, go to tinypng.com, upload your photo, and make sure that it’s under 500kb. If you compressed it, and it’s still above 500kb, you can download it, and upload it again until you reach that level.

    3. Next, upload your images to your Squarespace website.

    4. On each image, you will click to edit them, and add the filename which is another descriptive form.

    5. Click SAVE.

ENABLE PINTEREST SAVE BUTTON

This means that every time your site visitor hovers over an image, they're gonna have the Pinterest Save button. This really encourages visitors to share your content on Pinterest which is the largest platform to drive traffic to your website. For this:

    1. Click on Settings.

    2. Select Marketing.

    3. Click on “Pinterest Saved Button”.

    4. Enable it for only your blog or for all of the pages of your website.

These are the best SEO practices to have a fully optimized Squarespace website.
