How to blog in Squarespace 2020
In this video, I will show you not only how to blog in Squarespace, but how to fully optimize your blog. This is the ultimate Blogging 101 masterclass!
Creating the blog page
Start by creating a blog page. You may already have a blog page, if you don’t, click on the plus icon right next to Primary Navigation and select blog. Continue by adding a name to your blog page. After naming your page, click on the gear icon right next to the Page Title and here it is very important to fill in the following settings:
General:
Page Title
Navigation Title
URL Slug
SEO:
SEO Title (optional)
SEO Description- extremely important! This is a description of what your blog offers. This is what is going to display on Google Search.
Advance:
Select either Full Post or Excerpt- I like to choose Excerpt because it provides you with a short summary while at the same time displaying all your blog posts so that your site visitor can then choose what is most appealing to them
Creating the blog posts
Now, to actually start creating our blog posts, click on the Blog Page and then proceed to click on the plus icon to add a new post.
The blog post editor will pop up and it is very simple to use. Enter the title of your blog in the Title box and below is where you can continue by writing the content.
On the Write Here space it’s amazing how you can organize your content. Feel free to add anything and everything you need here such as: text, photos, videos, audio, lines, and format the content using headings, bold text, italics, etc. The sky is the limit here!
Blog post settings
After adding in your blog content you want to focus on the following settings:
Tags: Based on keywords, so these are really good for SEO. Use commas to separate them and remember that the more the better here.
Categories: These are used to organize your content in themes. Keep them very selective 5-7 categories at most.
Comments: I recommend to leave them on. That way, site visitors can interact with your blog posts.
Draft: Here you can choose to Publish the post right away, Schedule it for a later day and time, Mark the post for Review (this works really well if you have a team member that goes over your blog posts before you publish them), and save it as Draft.
Once you complete these settings, go to the top section and click on Options tab. Add the following settings:
Thumbnail image
Post URL
Excerpt
Then go to the SEO tab. Here you want to fill in the following settings:
SEO Title
SEO Description
The last step I highly recommend is to edit your blog post on the Preview View before you publish it. Here you can structure the post once again in the same view as the one that your site visitor will see.
Once your blog post is ready, click on Save. Go back to your blog menu where you will see that your post is still labeled as Draft. To change this, click on Edit one more time, and click Save and Publish.
Voila! Your post is now LIVE and OPTIMIZED!
